We are a group of artists, designers, students and alumni from The Ontario College of Art and Design and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago working together to promote recycling in Chicago.
The project is well on it's way...
Here is a quick update to fill readers in our the project's development to date:
15 homes in the Rogers Park Neighbourhood of Chicago have jumped on the project, accpected their blue bins and have begun putting out there recycling each week for the next month! Today marks the first collection day, which was a huge success! 11 of the 15 houses set out their heaping blue bins on the curb for the RIC crew to collect. We have one little puzzle to figure out... one of the blue bins disappeared from a home's yard late tuesday night without a trace!
We hope to show the accumilation of excess materials humans produce/use, which can be diverted from landfills to be reduced, reused and recycled. Our Committee aims at creating public awareness surrounding the ecological footprint humans create and education on how we can reduce it. The materials collected over the next month will be used to create a large scale public sculpture to engage the public in these issues in late July.
We have already recieved a great deal of interest and support from The Chicago Recycling Coalition, Ward 49's Alderman Joe Moore, a local museum and several other City Officials.
